Silografia impressa su carta vergellata, priva di filigrana e con testo latino al verso per l'edizione del 1511. Monogramma al centro del bordo inferiore. Secondo stato su quattro (Meder 152 II/IV). Ampi margini originali con numerazione di pagina in basso a destra "Díííj" sotto la parte incisa. Esemplare in buono stato di conservazione, dalla inchiostratura forte e nitida. STRAUSS 127 - ... Wölfflin considera questa versione ‘la più espressiva e riassuntiva; non solo la testa, ma anche le braccia e le gambe parlano’. Dürer, in questo caso, ha utilizzato lo scorcio nella silografia che, di regola, è il segno distintivo de La Passione Incisa. Giuseppe d’Arimatea tiene il torso di Cristo. San Giovanni conforta la Vergine a sinistra. In qualche modo, la ‘Corona di Spine’ è stata spostata a terra dalla sua posizione elevata nel foglio precedente e il cesto, che era stato parzialmente svuotato in L’Inchiodatura alla Croce è ora ordinatamente riconfezionato… Woodcut on laid paper, without watermark with latin text "on verso" for the edition of 1511. STRAUSS 127 - ...Wölfflin considers this version ‘the most expressive and succinct one; not only the head, but also the arms and legs speak’. Dürer has, in this instance, employed foreshorten- ing in the woodcut that, as a rule, is the hallmark of The Engraved Passion. Joseph of Arimathea is holding Christ’s torso. St. John is comforting the Virgin on the left. Somehow, the ‘Crown of Thorns’ has been moved down to the ground from its lofty position in the preceding sheet and the basket, which was partially emptied in The Nailing to the Cross is now neatly repacked...
