Silografia impressa su carta vergellata con filigrana ‘Triangolo con fiore’ (Meder 127); testo latino al verso per l’edizione del 1511; timbro della collezione ‘Richard Gute Kunst’ (Lugt 2213 a). Monogramma su tavoletta all’angolo inferiore destro. Secondo stato su tre (Meder 190 II/III). Piccolissimo margine oltre il bordolinea, sempre presente, con perdita della numerazione di pagina A iii che era posta al margine dell’angolo inferiore destro. Esem - plare in ottimo stato di conservazione dalla vivida inchiostratura; leggerissima trasparenza di poche righe del testo; al verso, bella goffratura e lievissime abrasioni agli angoli superiori; sporadiche, leggere macchie di foxing. STRAUSS 95 - Le dimensioni delle figure sono insolitamente grandi. È l’unica xilografia della serie Vita della Vergine, oltre a Fuga in Egitto priva di elementi architettonici. Proprio come la trave verticale che separa Cristo dalla Vergine in Congedo di Cristo dalla Madre , qui un albero sottile separa Gioacchino dall’apparizione. Restituendo la vegetazione in to - nalità cupe, Dürer ha accentuato il contrasto tra le figure luminose. Monogram on the right lower edge. Meder 190 II/III. Very narrow margin beyond the borderline, always present with loss of page numbering A iii which was placed at the edge of the lower right corner. Excellent condition, vivid inky, strong contrasts; slightly transparency of few text lines. On verso: beautiful gauffrage and very tiny abrasions on the upper corners; sporadic, light pinpoint foxmarks. STRAUSS 95 - The scale of the figures is unusually large. It is the only woodcut in The Life of the Virgin series, besides The Flight to Egypt, which lacks architectural elements. Much like the vertical beam separating Christ from the Virgin in Christ Taking Leave of His Mother here a thin tree divides Joachim from the apparition. By rendering the vege - tation in sombre shades, Dürer has heightened the contrast of the bright figures.
