Product's description

Incisione originale eseguita a bulino su matrice di rame, impressa su carta vergellata leggermente spessa, filigrana “Grande porta della Città con stemma” (Meder 261; Briquet 15948) e databile tra il 1550 e il 1580. Monogramma in basso al centro. Stato unico, quinta variante su cinque (Meder 81 e/e). Rifilata al bordolinea superiore, con sottilissimo margine sugli altri tre lati, Esemplare in buono stato di conservazione, inchiostratura nitida pur se impressa su una carta modesta; qualche lieve abrasione al verso degli angoli inferiori.

 Cfr. PANOFSKY 195: Stile italiano. L'affermazione che questo gruppo possa essere stato destinato alla Crocifissione è una congettura infondata. Il Cavaliere Turco fu successivamente utilizzato per la "Pala d'altare di Ober St. Veit". Il lanzichenecco con l'alabarda fu copiato in un arazzo della Turenna del 1500 circa.

 

Original engraving on slightly thick laid paper, with watermark “City gate, large “(Meder 261; Briquet 15948)   datable between 1550 and 1580. Monogram to the lower centre. Meder 81 e/e. Trimmed on upper borderline, with very narrow margin on the other three sides. Good conditions, sharply impression even if printed on a modest; some light abrasions on the lower corners “on verso”.

Cfr. PANOFSKY 195: Italianate. The assertion that this group may have been intended for a Crucifixion is an unfounded conjecture. The Turkish Rider was later used for the "Ober St. Veit Altar- piece." The lansquenet with the halberd was copied in a Touraine tapestry of about 1500.
