Inside the book 40+45 copper illustrations for the First part and woodcuts for the Second, etched on both sides. This specimen includes the third Italian edition in its First part, printed in Piazzola del Brenta in 1687 by Marco Contarini who based it on the first Venetian edition of 1615 that only had woodcut instead of copper etchings too. As for the second part this copy includes the absolute first Venetian 1615 edition. One of the most influential architecture book of the XVII cent. started in 1591 and first published in Venice in 1615. Scamozzi was sure one of the most important architects of the Venetian areas. The First part was left unfinished (6 book on the planned 10) for the death of the author, cf. Schlosser-Magnino, pp.414 and following. “This vast work…is of certain importance in the development of artistic theories in the XVII cent., started in fact by it”. Scamozzi also demonstrated an impressive knowledge in art literature as shown in the First book where he also quotes unpublished sources. Beautiful copy with skillful restorations to binding, very tiny wormholes on few initial pages and slight dampstainings or marginal stains on few leaves. Cfr. Cicognara 651- 652; Fowler 292; Brunet V, 180 Bibliothek BIB-OECHSLIN (Einsiedeln) | A07a ; app. 2922 Schlosser-Magnino, pp. 414 e segg.
